1.0 PURPOSE OF REPORT

1.1 To advise Members of progress on issues which the Committee has raised at previous meetings.

2.0       BACKGROUND

2.1       This report will be submitted to the Committee as required, listing the Committee’s previous resolutions and/or when it requested further information to be submitted to future meetings.  The table below provides a list of issues which were identified at previous Committee meetings, and which have not yet been resolved.  The table also indicates where the issues are regarded as completed and will therefore not be carried forward to this agenda item at the next committee meeting.

Appendix A: Response from Director of Public Health

There are a variety of different programmes in place around nutrition for those families in temporary accommodation, some specifically for the families in those specific circumstances and some for all families on lower incomes:

• As part of the support that all families get in temporary accommodation, Ready Renting work includes healthy eating.
• There is a Homeless Prevention Support officers’ meeting on a regular basis – there are around 20 full time equivalent officers across North Yorkshire that support households in our temporary accommodation – we can find out more about what support they offer around nutrition if needed.
• Any family whose children are eligible for free school meals will be automatically enrolled on an annual basis unless they opt out.
• As part of the Feast (Holiday Activities and Food) programmes held over the summer holidays for free school meal eligible children, some of the activity providers work with Phunky Foods who do healthy food related activities - Phunky Foods - Healthy Lifestyle Curriculum Activities
• There are also a variety of cooking classes provided throughout the region e.g. Gallows Close in Barrowcliff, Scarborough hold Saturday morning cooking classes for children age 8+ and their families. These kinds of programmes, particularly in our most deprived neighbourhoods are what we would like to expand as part of a prevention programme around childhood obesity in our youngest population.
