 North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel Annual Report 2025/26

 

Report of the Assistant Chief Executive Legal and Democratic Services

 

1.0       Purpose of Report

 

1.1       To bring to the attention of the Council the North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel’s   

            Annual Report for 2025/26.

 

 

2.0       Background  

 

2.1       Council agreed in February 2025 that a copy of the North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel’s (“the Panel’s) Annual Report would be brought annually to its July meeting.  This was with a view to aligning with the established practice for overview and scrutiny within the council, whereby an annual report is presented to Council in July each year. 

 

2.2       The Panel is a joint committee of both North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council, comprising mainly councillors and three co-opted independent members.  It has responsibility for providing a ‘check and balance’ function on the performance of the Mayor in relation to their policing, fire and crime functions and also the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime. 

 

2.3       The Panel’s Annual Report highlights key activity undertaken at its meetings during this period, highlighting how it has scrutinised the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on a range of important issues. 

 

2.4       The report is provided at Appendix A, on behalf of the Chair of the Panel, Councillor Peter Wilkinson.  The Panel’s intention is that the report is shared with all councillors of North Yorkshire and City of York and as such Council is asked to note the report for information.  The report will similarly be taken on 15 July 2026 to full Council at City of York.  The report has been published on the North Yorkshire Partnerships website where an Executive Summary is also available.
