Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Business and Environmental Services
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
To uphold the objections to the proposals
consulted on, thus leaving the restrictions on this section of
Wheatcroft Avenue as ‘no waiting at any time’ full
length on both sides.
Objectors are to be notified of the decision.
Over the years, work that has been carried out
with both schools by the local highway authority to improve road
safety education and reduce the incidence of vehicles parking close
to the school gates. The schools will have a travel plan that aims
to encourage travel to and from school by means other than the
private car.
Also there is a car park, 125 metres north of Wheatcroft Avenue on
Sea Cliff Road, which is free and with unlimited stay time. It was
agreed that the best approach to take would be to encourage parents
to park in the car park instead of on Wheatcroft Avenue.
A proposal to re-advertise changes which would
allow parking between the hours of 8-10am and 2-5pm, every day was
considered and rejected for the same reasons as the original
proposals had been rejected.
An alternative proposal which would allow parking between the hours
of 8-10am and 2-5pm, Monday to Friday was considered and rejected
for the same reasons, but also because the necessary signage would
be overly complicated.
