To approve public consultation on a proposal that the County
Council should close Clapham Church of England Voluntary Controlled
Primary School from 31 August 2019.
*PLEASE NOTE This decision was originally
published on or near the date of the decision and so call in no
longer applies. It has been re-published as part of the change in
committee management system that we use.*
Low pupil numbers have led to the school being in a financial
deficit position, and unable to afford its own Headteacher. Despite
numerous attempts by the LA to secure a shared headship arrangement
with another school, this has not been successful.
At a meeting on 29 November 2018, the Governing Body of Clapham CE
VC Primary School reluctantly voted to seek to consult on closure
proposals. The Governing Body has requested that the County Council
begin consulting on a proposal to close the school at the end of
the academic year. This would mean that the school would close to
pupils at the beginning of the summer holidays in July 2019
Under the arrangements agreed by The Executive on 25 September
2007, decisions to approve public consultation on school
organisation proposals for which the decision maker is the Local
Authority, will normally be taken by the Executive Members for
Schools.
