Decision:

That the statutory proposal to expand Coppice Valley Community Primary School by an additional 210 places be approved.

Reasons for the decision:

Coppice Valley CP School, Harrogate, serves an urban catchment area in the north west of the town. The school has been experiencing growth in total numbers on roll in recent years which is predicted to continue. An expansion of the school was therefore prioritised for inclusion in the Schools Capital Programme 2015/17.

The proposed expansion is classed as a “significant change” as it increases capacity by more than 30 places and by more than 25%. The statutory process under the School Organisation Regulations prescribes a four week representation period.

On 26 May 2015 the Executive Member for Schools approved a four week representation period on the proposals, as required under the School Organisation Regulations. The formal consultation period commenced on 5 June and closed on 3 July 2015. The full proposal document and statutory notice were posted, published and distributed in accordance with the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013. No responses were received to the consultation.

In the absence of any objection to the proposal the matter can now be determined by the Executive Member for Schools in accordance with the County Council’s Constitution.
