Decision:

Submit a Pre-submission response for the DfT Structures Fund to request funds for the maintenance of the A63 Bypass Swing bridge and Replacement of the A19 Selby Toll Swing bridge.

Reasons for the decision:

To ensure that both bridges are maintained so that they are able to swing and safe for the vehicles using them.

Alternative options considered:

A63 Bypass Bridge
As the bridge is not currently operational, in that it won’t swing, the only options would be to not maintain or look to get capital funding for the works.

A19 Toll Bridge
A full refurbishment could be carried out; however, the bridge is now close to its design life. This, although considered to be cheaper and quicker option, won’t unlock potential for widening the bridge to improve connectivity and is likely to leave the bridge more reliant on regular maintenance in the future.
