To seek approval for the Council to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and acceptance of funding, if successful, for £450,000 from Environment Agency’s Coastal Adaptation Pilot programme. This will enable a range of studies to assist in the ongoing management of coastal risk at Flat Cliffs, Filey subject to acceptable terms and conditions being received.

The submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Environment Agency’s Coastal Adaptation Programme for £450,000 to undertake a range of studies to assist in managing coastal risk at Flat Cliffs, Filey is approved, subject to acceptable terms and conditions being received.
Reasons for the decision:
As Risk Management Authority, North Yorkshire Council, under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, is required to act in a manner that is consistent with the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy. Adaptation planning to mitigate coastal erosion risk fulfils that duty.
Alternative options considered:
Should the EOI not be submitted, natural processes will continue to pose a future risk to the site.
