The report details the proposals for the consultation on the draft North Yorkshire All-age Carers’ Strategy with a recommendation for a 8-week public consultation from 3 August 2026 to 27 September 2026.
Approval has been given to proceed with the public consultation on the draft North Yorkshire All-age Carers’ Strategy, for 8 weeks from 3 August 2026 to 27 September 2026.
This new strategy replaces the ‘Caring for Carers’ 2017 – 2022 strategy. Its overarching ambition is to create a North Yorkshire where people of all ages who look after family and friends feel seen, supported and genuinely valued.
The strategy sets a clear, carer-led ambition: ‘We want people of all ages who care for someone in North Yorkshire to be recognised and supported to do what matters most to them.’
This ambition will be delivered through four strategic priorities:
• Collaborative and accessible information and support for people who care.
• Supporting people who care to stay healthy and well.
• Identifying and recognising the caring role.
• Evidence based and personalised support.
Consultation feedback will be used to inform refinement and finalisation of the strategy ahead of publication, subject to subsequent governance and approval processes.
The alternative option was not to proceed to consultation. However, this would have removed the opportunity for stakeholders and those affected by the proposals to provide feedback, reducing transparency and limiting the evidence available to inform the final decision.
