The Governing Body of Bishop Thornton Church of England (VC)
Primary School published statutory proposals on 2 May 2019 to
transfer the school to a new site at Burnt Yates, near Harrogate
(utilising the former premises of Burnt Yates Church of England
Primary School) with effect from 1 September 2019.
Statutory notices were published on 2 May 2019 for a period of four
weeks until 30 May 2019 and within that time no representations
were received regarding the proposals.
As a Voluntary Controlled Primary School, the school organisation
regulations and guidance require proposals for transfer to a new
site to be published by the Governing Body and to be determined by
the County Council. The Governors met on 5 June, after the
statutory notice period had ended, and agreed unanimously to
formally ask the Executive Member for Education and Skills for
approval of this proposal.
Under the arrangements agreed by Executive on 25 September 2007,
school organisation decisions, for which the decision maker is the
Local Authority, will normally be taken by the County
Council’s Executive or, if there are no objections to the
Statutory Notice, the decision is delegated to the Executive Member
for Education and Skills.
In considering proposals for a school
expansion, the Executive Member for Education & Skills as
decision maker can decide to:
? reject the proposals
? approve the proposals
? approve the proposals with modifications
? approve the proposals subject to them meeting a specific
condition
