To appoint David Bowe as a Non-Executive
Director onto the Board of Brierley Homes Limited for a period of

Brierley Homes is a wholly owned company of the County Council and is a relatively new organisation that has successfully delivered one completed housing scheme and has ambitions to commence a number of further schemes over the next 12 months. The company wishes to start three simultaneous projects over the coming months. David Bowe, who was the Corporate Director for Business and Environmental Services for the Council until last year, has a large amount of background knowledge to the proposed developments, running of the company and experience of successfully delivering such projects on time and within budget. Therefore in order to ensure the smooth progression of the company for the next 12 months it is felt appropriate and prudent to retain David Bowe’s services on Brierley Board for this period. This position will be reviewed at the end of the calendar year. This post will be a paid position of £12,000 a year which will be funded directly by the company.
The following options were considered and
1. Not to appoint an additional Non-Executive Director to the Board. This option was rejected as it was considered additional expertise was needed for the Board to ensure continued progress of the existing schemes and to provide support to employees of the company.
2. To appoint an additional Non-Executive Director from elsewhere. This option was rejected as David Bowe has been involved with the company since inception and has a greater knowledge of the company than any other potential newly appointed Non-Executive Director. The composition of the Board and the requirement of relevant experience will be reviewed by the end of the calendar month.
