*Re-published: call-in no longer applies* Re: Reorganisation of Secondary Education in Selby
Decision Maker: Executive Member for Education, Learning & Skills
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Decision:
Approval to consult on proposals to amalgamate
Selby High School and Brayton High School through the enlargement
and expansion of Selby High School and the technical closure of
Brayton High School.
Reasons for the decision:
*PLEASE NOTE This decision was originally
published on or near the date of the decision and so call in no
longer applies. It has been re-published as part of the change in
committee management system that we use.*
There is a pressing need to address the quality of educational
provision at Brayton High School in particular as a result of
unacceptably low GCSE results in summer 2015. In addition the
school has for some time been experiencing very low pupil numbers
which has had an impact on the school’s budget. The proposal
to amalgamate the schools could create a high quality and
sustainable educational establishment for the benefit of students
in Selby in the long term. Both schools have been in discussion for
some time over the potential for stronger ties either in the form
of a federation or through merging the school schools although
other partnership options have also been explored by Brayton High
School Governors.
It is proposed that consultation now be undertaken on a proposal to
merge the school schools under a single leadership and governance
structure with effect from September 2016.
