The required 10-year review of the Starbeck
Grant fund with the Residents Association has been completed.
There are three main changes for this year’s grant
allocation, amounts have doubled to a maximum of £400 for
individuals and to £2,000 for groups. Following discussions
with the Residents Association on how the local community could
best benefit from the funds, it has been recommended we draw down a
maximum of £60,000 from the capital funds to offer larger
grants for capital projects, this new opportunity would offer
grants of up £20,000.
The Starbeck Community Fund was established in
1992, the allocation of £300,000 for the purpose of creation
or improvement of recreation/community facilities in Starbeck was a
set requirement of a development scheme to build Morrisons
Supermarket on land in Starbeck. The fund has been managed by the
local authority since then as a no single community development
opportunity was identified.
The Starbeck Small Grants Fund was established in the absence of a
single project to provide grants from the interest accrued to
voluntary, community and individuals for one-off items that
enhanced or created recreation or community facility
opportunities.
The ten-year review took place in Spring 25, the fund manager
(North Yorkshire Council) in partnership with Starbeck Residents
Association and North Yorkshire Council elected members whose
division is all or in part in the defined fund area.
Fund one – Increase of £200, grants now available to
the sum of £400 to recognise societal financial
increases
Fund two – Increase of £1,000, grants now available to
the sum of £2,000 to recognise societal financial
increases
Fund three – This is a new grant, to provide an opportunity
for organisations to apply for a larger amount of funds to
contribute to a capital project.
It was considered and rejected that the
funding opportunities remain as they were prior to the review
taking place in Spring 2025.
