Decision:

To increase the mileage rates to 55p/mile in line with revised HMRC rates.

To agree to the increase in rates from 01 June 2026.

To agree to review when the next collective agreement is reviewed.

Reasons for the decision:

This reflects the Council's commitment to reimburse expenses at the agreed HMRC rate.

The mileage rate was increased at the end of May for the first time in 15 years.

Alternative options considered:

If the mileage rate was not increased it would be harder to fill frontline roles which require business travel to deliver services, would result in financial hardship for employees, and cause industrial relations problems with our recognised trade union.
