North Yorkshire Council’s response to the Department for Education (DoE) consultation on the proposed subject content of the new Natural History GCSE is approved.

The recommendation will ensure that North Yorkshire Council's feedback is considered to support young people’s understanding and engagement in supporting the natural world to thrive and in the development of sustainability education.

The alternative option would be not to submit a consultation response to the DoE. This was rejected, as participation in the consultation provides an opportunity to ensure that North Yorkshire Council can contribute to informing future government action on educating young people on the impacts of climate change and supporting the natural world to thrive.
