Procurement to undertake repair works on
Oakbeck Bridge at an estimated cost of £750,000, to be
carried out through the CECF 2021-2025 when awarded using a NEC4
ECC
The replacement of the existing masonry bridge
with a new wider precast concrete bridge which will allow the
removal of a precast concrete footbridge beside the existing bridge
and bring the footpaths onto the new bridge as well as allowing
better traffic flow to the existing roundabout. This will bring all
the existing services across the bridge in a formal matter instead
of them being under the highway. This strengthening will tie into
the works to be done on the A59 at Kex Gill in the
future.
Leaving the existing structure is not an
option. The footbridge has been repaired previously and the repairs
have failed, the structure is now considered to be at the end of
its life and is beyond economic repair. The existing road bridge
was temporarily repaired and strengthening would be difficult in
the location and achieving load carrying capacity would be
difficult.
