Queens Road is located just a short walk from Richmond town centre, making it a convenient and often exploited location for all-day parking by commuters and tourists.
This persistent use of residential spaces by non-residents severely limits the ability of local households to park near their homes, especially during peak visitor seasons.
While part of Queens Road is covered by the Disc Zone, other sections are not, creating an inconsistent and unfair parking environment. Residents in the unrestricted areas face daily challenges due to long-stay parking by visitors who bypass regulated zones.
The nearby Nunns Close car park offers a suitable alternative for commuters and tourists, with ample space and proximity to the town centre. Encouraging non-residents to use designated public car parks like Nunns Close would help alleviate pressure on residential streets and improve access for those who live on Queens Road.
Furthermore, as more residents transition to electric vehicles (EVs), the need for consistent access to nearby parking becomes critical. Many EV owners rely on home charging, which is only feasible if they can park close to their property. A residents-only parking zone would support this shift toward sustainable transport and align with broader environmental goals.
We urge the council to consider this petition not only as a matter of convenience, but as a necessary step toward fair access, environmental responsibility, and improved quality of life for Queens Road residents.
