Extension of Insurance and Claims Handling Contract for 18 months from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2023

Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Strategic Resources

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To approve the extension of the insurance and claims handling contract for 18 months until after local government re-organisation.

Decision:

The Authority extends the current contract for Insurance and Claims Handling from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2023.

Reasons for the decision:

To ensure insurance cover is in place until the Local Government Reorganisation begins on 1st April 2023, during which time a re-procurement for insurance for the new organisation will be undertaken to commence from 1 April 2023.

Alternative options considered:

Re-procure the insurance provision for a short term contract, however timescales no longer permit this, and this option was not attractive to the market. The costs would be high to offset the fact that the new Authority will be tendering for insurance from 1st April 2023. The mobilisation costs and time for a short term arrangement would be significant, therefore this option was not viable.
