Authorisation of submission of bid for funding
from Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Accelerator (DCIA)
Scheme
Approval for submission of a bid for funding
from the Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Accelerator Scheme by
North Yorkshire County Council in conjunction with partner
organisations.
Not open to call-in as urgency procedure applies.
The central purpose of the bid is to encourage
the use of public assets for the role out of high-speed wireless
and mobile connectivity. If the bid is successful, it will fund the
delivery of a project which will focus on asset mapping, whilst
incorporating full 3D modelling of the terrain and surface
obstructions that affect wireless signals, as well as including
high performance wireless propagation planning technology.
The outputs from this project will improve the proposition to
communications providers, helping to improve Digital Connectivity
across the County, as well as improving the Council’s ability
to maintain and service its assets.
The alternative option was to not submit a bid
for the DCIA funding. This would result in a potentially missed
opportunity to secure funding to deliver a number of benefits for
NYCC and North Yorkshire residents, as outlined above.
This alternative option was rejected due to the clear economic and
operational benefits associated with delivering the proposed
project. It is clear that, without securing the grant funding from
DCIA, this project would not be feasible against other service,
financial and resource pressures.
