Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Pilot - acceptance of funding

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Highways & Transportation

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To authorise the Corporate Director - Strategic Resources to accept £2m grant funding to deliver LEVI

Decision:

The County Council accepts the grant monies and delegates authority to the Corporate Director - Strategic Resources to accept £2m Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure grant funding from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.

Reasons for the decision:

Delivery of the proposed EV Chargepoints will help to address issues of social isolation, poor digital connectivity and climate change in our rural communities, In all cases, the schemes being developed should enhance, people’s ability to access travel options and opportunities. This includes people with reduced mobility. The charging infrastructure will enable us to begin to deliver EVCPs to help us meet our target in line with local and central government ambitions to decarbonise the county and our country.

The decision is NOT open to call in due to short timescale for confirmation to the DfT.

Alternative options considered:

Other proposals included EVCPs that would solve the issues of on street parking in urban areas, however, urban areas are more attractive to the private sector and are therefore likely to attract funding, whereas rural areas are more challenging and expensive to deliver therefore much less commercially attractive. It is felt the selected option was best value.
