Grant Acceptance – York & North Yorkshire Careers Hub Network

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Open to Business

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To consider approval for grant acceptance of the grant funding provided by Department for Education via the Careers Enterprise Company, to support the Careers Hub Network service across York and North Yorkshire for the academic year 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024. The service is provided by York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, for whom North Yorkshire Council acts as Accountable Body.

Decision:

Acceptance of the grant from the Careers Enterprise Company (on behalf of the Department for Education) Trade for £274,211 for the Yorkshire and North Yorkshire Careers Hub service to continue during 2023/2024.

Reasons for the decision:

The DfE funding for 2023/24 (Academic Year) for the York & North Yorkshire Careers Hub Network supports the programme in this area to reach every eligible school and college, with a target of doing so across the whole of England by the end of August 2024. This is a key aspiration in the Skills for Jobs White Paper. Evidence shows that this will bring higher quality, higher impact careers provision to an even greater number of young people and more enduring links between education and employers.

Alternative options considered:

The alternative would be to decline the grant, which would result in being unable to provide the level of service expected by Government, through the Department for Education approach to delivery of local Careers Information, Advice and Guidance support through Mayoral Combined Authorities/Local Enterprise Partnerships.
