Decision Maker: Corporate Director Children and Young People's Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To apply to the Department for Education for powers to appoint an Interim Executive Board (IEB) at Forest Moor School

Reasons for the decision:

PLEASE NOTE This decision was originally published on or near the date of the decision and so call in no longer applies. It has been re-published as part of the change in committee management system that we use.

The Governing Board at Forest Moor were issued a pre-warning letter on 23rd March 2018. The response from the board to this letter was not sufficient to deliver the necessary progress, particularly with respect to the school’s budget position. As a result, a formal warning notice was issued on 21st May 2018. In addition, the LA believes that the board do not have the capacity to provide the required support and challenge to recover the budget and to create a sustainable vision for the school which enables improvement in standards.

The LA now proposes to use its statutory intervention powers to apply to the DfE for approval to establish an Interim Executive Board to secure effective governance and rapid school improvement. This power can only be used with the consent of the Secretary of State to whom application must be made.

The report considered by the Corporate Director contains information of the type defined in paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A Local Government Act 1072 (as amended) and is therefore exempt from publication.
