The award of contract to Waltonwrays - General Maintenance works for £532,951.00 to PBS Construction Limited.

A procurement exercise was carried out through the Civils Framework. Two bids were with PBS being cheapest. Due to tight window of working for environmental conditions, start date is 29 July with works to Span2 (the main span over the river), needing to be completed by the end of September. No time to retender for a lower cost.

Delay the works till next year, by which time more corrosion will be present upon the beams. The joints in the road are at the end of their life. A temporary repair temp was undertaken on site when surveying the joints due to a large pothole appearing next to the joints caused by water ingress.
Consider painting only the heavily corroded areas at the half joints. Painting the whole structure would increase the longevity of the bridge through providing a protective cover for the steel beams. Our preferred option would be to paint the whole of the beams now, as well as the bearings, to prolong the life of the structure.
