Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Environment

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To set out the rationale and methodology for the countywide strategic speed limit review and prioritisation of resultant schemes.

Decision:

The introduction of a 50mph speed limit as advertised is approved and the Assistant Chief Executive (Legal and Democratic Services) be authorised to seal the relevant Traffic Regulation Order by the Corporate Director, Environment and Executive Member for Highways and Transportation for access in light of the objections received and that the objectors are notified within 14 days of the order being made.

Reasons for the decision:

To introduce a 50mph speed limit replacing the existing national 60mph limit on A61 Ripon to Ripley, to reduce vehicular traffic speed in order to improve road safety.

Alternative options considered:

No alternative options have been considered per se, the 50mph speed limit on the A61 is effectively the first step in a series of measures to improve road safety on the A61, as part of a wider ongoing investigation. The route continues to be the subject of detailed analysis, with the intention of making further improvements over the next year.
