Decision Maker: Executive Member for Education, Learning & Skills

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Following the publication of statutory notices, to determine whether to change the age range at The Wensleydale School and Sixth Form, effective from 31 August 2025, by ceasing the Sixth Form Provision.
If there are no objections to the statutory notices, this decision will be taken by the Executive Member for Education, Learning and Skills at the meeting with the Corporate Director - Children and Young People’s Service

Decision:

The Executive member for education & Skills has approved the proposal to change the age range at The Wensleydale School and Sixth Form, effective from 31 August 2025, by ceasing the Sixth Form Provision

Reasons for the decision:

The Governing Board of The Wensleydale School and Sixth Form temporarily suspended its sixth form with effect from. September 2023

The withdrawal of government funding for the BTEC and CTEC qualifications in vocational subjects previously offered by the School, the demographics of the area and the range of post-16 courses that are offered by sixth form and FE colleges locally, have made it difficult for The Wensleydale School and Sixth Form to maintain a viable post-16 provision in terms of quality of experience, subject breadth and financial viability
