Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Community Development

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To make final allocations of UK Shared Prosperity and Rural England Prosperity Funding to North Yorkshire Council projects as follows:

Whitby Harbourside Project: £153,000
Whitby Old Town Hall £35,500
Scarborough Walking and Cycling Projects £51,500
Scarborough Public Realm Projects £52,000
Ripon Leisure Centre £269,684
Catterick Garrison Town Centre £269,684

Reasons for the decision:

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Rural England Prosperity are awarded by the Government to North Yorkshire Council for the purposes of community and economic development. The primary goal of the UKSPF is to build pride in place and increase life chances across the UK.

At the end of the programme there are otherwise unutilised funds which are able to be allocated to Council Projects which meet the criteria of the funds and have demonstrable benefits and outcomes for local communities.

Alternative options considered:

Early in the programme the potential for overallocation was discussed by the project board in or to mitigate likely underspends. This approach was rejected on the basis that there was no reserve funding for overspends. The other alternative to the proposed course of action would be to return funding to central Government.
