That the executive Member for the Environment, in line with delegated authority, note the North Yorkshire Council statutory consultation process and;
authorise the submission of the Council’s detailed response to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero once detailed officer responses have been collated.

Decision:

Approval to submit a consultation response on behalf of North Yorkshire Council in response to the Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) Voluntary Carbon and Nature Markets: Raising Integrity consultation.

Reasons for the decision:

To seek authorisation for North Yorkshire Council’s response to the consultation to ensure that the views of North Yorkshire Council are represented in the development of national policy regarding voluntary carbon and nature markets, the use of high-integrity, Carbon and Natural Capital.

Alternative options considered:

To do nothing was rejected as this would forgo the opportunity to influence national policy and ensure local priorities were reflected.
