Decision details

Targeted Prevention in local communities

Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Health and Adult Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To consider the options for the future commissioning of targeted prevention activity in local communities and determine the agreed approach

Decision:

Following consideration of the options for the future commissioning of targeted prevention activity in local communities it was agreed to pursue an option proposing to extend provider contracts for six months. This would require all incumbent providers to agree. If this is not achievable, option 2 was agreed which would end the existing service on 30 September 2022 and develop new provision built around community organisations delivered through grant funding that is aligned to outcomes agreed in collaboration with Stronger Communities and Living Well teams.

Reasons for the decision:

The decision was made following representation from the voluntary and community sector to provide time to secure alternative funding mechanisms following the end of the current contract.

Alternative options considered:

An option to extend the existing contracts enacting the two year extension clause was considered but not agreed due to the lack of clear outcomes and value for money for the local authority.
