Long Gill West Bridge Repair Works 2022 - Award of Contract

Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Business and Environmental Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

a contract be awarded to Thomas Armstrong Construction Ltd for the provision of carrying out a bridge repair works contract to Long Gill West Bridge, North Yorkshire. The form of contract will be a NEC4 ECC Option A and awarded under the CECF 2021 for the sum of £73,781.00.

Reasons for the decision:

To carry out NYCC statutory duty to maintain its Highway structures under Highways Act 1980, the bridge requires strengthening works to ensure it is fit for purpose.

Alternative options considered:

NYCC has a statutory duty to maintain its Highway structures under the Highways Act 1980. If no action is taken this could result in a continued deterioration of the structure which would lead to restrictions on its use in the near future. This could result in a longer closure and more costly repair works. If work is not carried out it would be necessary to either restrict traffic with barriers and two way lights, impose weight restrictions or close the road.
