Music Service Arts Council Bid

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Education, Learning & Skills

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To agree to enter the bidding process for funding from Arts Council to deliver the Govts. National Plan for Music Education post September 2024. As the current grant holders, we are keen to maintain control of the funding to support instrumental learning across North Yorkshire and York. Music Hubs have been merged across the country so we will also be working with York Music Hub to deliver the plan.

Decision:

To approve a bid for DfE/Arts council funding to remain Lead Organisation in the Music Hub for North Yorkshire and York.

Reasons for the decision:

The Music Service is currently the Lead Organisation for the North Yorkshire Music Hub,
which is a partnership between music education organisations delivering a wide range of
opportunities for children in North Yorkshire.

The DfE and Arts Council have decided that there should be fewer Lead Organisations in its next round of funding. They have redrawn the map of music hubs to combine areas across the country. We have been paired with York Music Hub. The successful Lead Organisation for the Music Hub in our area will need to deliver to York and North Yorkshire from September 2024 onwards. The Music Service would like to maintain its position as Lead Organisation but for both hubs and therefore we are seeking permission to bid for the grant funding that would come with this role.
