To consider approval for York and North
Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership to lead an application to
the Dept for Education Skills Bootcamps (Wave 5) 2024-25 programme.
The current year programme is £2.6m and the application for
Wave 5 will be for a similar amount or higher.
The programme will be delivered by York and North Yorkshire Local
Enterprise Partnership, for whom North Yorkshire Council acts as
Accountable Body, therefore NYC process will be followed.
Approval for an application to be made by 30th
September 2023 to the Department for Education for Skills Bootcamps
(Wave 5) 2024-25 for at least £2.6million for delivery in
2024-2025, to be delivered via York and North Yorkshire Local
Enterprise Partnership and that delegation is approved for the
Corporate Director – Resources to sign-off the final amount
of the application when preparation is completed.
The decision is based on the significant
contribution that the Skills Bootcamps programme can make to the
local economy in addressing local skills needs for employers and to
support the local labour market.
The Skills Bootcamps programme has developed
during Wave 3 and Wave 4 and has become more tailored to meet the
local employment need. Therefore, the alternative “Do
Nothing” would lose the momentum gained to date, and
declining the grant would result in being unable to provide the
level of service expected by Government, through the Department for
Education to provide a local Skills Bootcamps “offer”
which is tailored to local needs of employers and skills gaps. A
smaller scale programme would be less impactful and would limit the
scope and scale of the programme. Therefore, the application will
be at least at a similar level to the current year
(£2.6m).
