Decision Maker: Director of Public Health
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: Yes
Is subject to call in?: Yes
To seek approval for the development of a new
contract and legal framework for the Infection Prevention Control
Service
To proceed with the development of a new
contract and legal framework for the community
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Service.
The current contract has not undergone
significant review since 2009 and the current service specification
has also not been updated since 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic has
highlighted additional IPC needs, including the need for greater
flexibility to tackle acute issues, which should be considered in
order to ensure that specialist IPC for North Yorkshire is robust
in the face of future outbreaks and pandemics. The decision was
made in consultation with the Executive Member and Corporate
Director.
The alternatives would either be to carry on
with the existing service with no changes, or to do a light-touch
review of the service specification only. Neither of these options
was considered adequate in terms of addressing the issues
identified.
