Fees and Charges for the Registrar, Coroner and Bereavement Services

Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Environment

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To inform of the current service fees and charges structure and obtain approval for fees and charges for the Bereavement Service for the financial year 2024-25 and
to enable the Council to inform Funeral Directors of changes to fees as required by the Competition and Markets Authority; and
to seek approval for fees and charges for the Registration Service for the financial year 2025-26 to allow ceremony bookings to be made.

Decision:

Approval of the fees and charges, uplifting by 6% and harmonising where appropriate.

Reasons for the decision:

To enable the setting of all fees and charges relating to the Coroners and Bereavement Services for the financial year 2024/25 and for the Registrars Ceremonies services for 2025/26

Alternative options considered:

Three options were considered for fee setting in the Bereavement Service – harmonisation of all fees across the service, part harmonisation and individual uplifting of fees for inflation. The final two options were chosen as being the most reasonable as harmonisation of all fees would have resulted in significant cost increases for some crematoria and cemeteries.
