Award of the contract for Stell Bank
Replacement works for £194,040 to Thomas Armstrong
(Construction) Limited through the CECF 2021.
A procurement exercise was carried out using
the CECF 2021. Thomas Armstrong proved to be the lowest price
compliant bid for the scheme.
A replacement structure at Stell Bank on an improved road alignment
has been deemed the most cost effective way of dealing with
numerous defects on the bridge as well as regular parapet
damage.
The works form part of the highway capital programme for
2024-25.
Defects in the arch could be dealt with by
casting a concrete saddle, however a previous widening using an
exposed steel beam is at the end of service life and would require
replacement, combined with the poor road and water course alignment
it is more cost effective to replace the structure on an improved
alignment rather than improving what is already there.
