On 1st November 2022, Scarborough Borough Council , closed
without warning or consultation 4, separate toilet blocks. The
replacement block to serve Ravine road ( aka Coble Landing toilets
should have been reopened on 17th March 2023. Filey is a seaside
town and depends on tourism. The delay in planning was due to SBC
not identifying, that Ravine toilets were in a conservation area.
On 1st April 2023, Filey joined the “ Ryedale Area”.
Filey residents are entitled to the same provision of services. The
request for free entry is until, the question of fees for the whole
district, has been reviewed ,which would be fair. This follows the
principles of reasonableness.
Filey traders on Coble Landing are having to deal with public
health issues, including urination and excrement in public areas.
The provision of Public toilets is a matter of good health and well
being, particularly for elderly people, who may otherwise not
venture out. See the points raised in “ The Provision of
Public Toilets 12th report session 2007-08.
