Free Access to Toilets in Filey, pending a full review and consultation for the administrative district

We the undersigned petition the Council to We, the residents, visitors and businesses of Filey Petition North Yorkshire Council to : 1. Provide temporary toilets for Coble Landing, whilst the new toilets are being demolished and replaced. 2. To provide free access at the point of entry to all toilet facilities in Filey, so as to be compatible with the Thirsk and Malton Area, in which Filey is now based. 3. To ensure that all toilet facilities are open all year round ( allowing for reduced hours in winter ) 4. To ask the council to reinstate the footbath at the side of Ravine toilets, and to ensure a suitable safety barrier is installed 5. To have flexible opening hours for the Ravine toilets in the month of December to support the Festive event.

On 1st November 2022, Scarborough Borough Council , closed without warning or consultation 4, separate toilet blocks. The replacement block to serve Ravine road ( aka Coble Landing toilets should have been reopened on 17th March 2023. Filey is a seaside town and depends on tourism. The delay in planning was due to SBC not identifying, that Ravine toilets were in a conservation area. On 1st April 2023, Filey joined the “ Ryedale Area”. Filey residents are entitled to the same provision of services. The request for free entry is until, the question of fees for the whole district, has been reviewed ,which would be fair. This follows the principles of reasonableness.
Filey traders on Coble Landing are having to deal with public health issues, including urination and excrement in public areas. The provision of Public toilets is a matter of good health and well being, particularly for elderly people, who may otherwise not venture out. See the points raised in “ The Provision of Public Toilets 12th report session 2007-08.
