North Yorkshire Library Service would like to bid for funding to deliver a series of ten ‘Slipper Socials’ aimed at supporting older people to live in their own homes for longer. For many older people, who may be mentally fit but physically frail, having a fall may result in a loss of independence. Research has shown that one of the most common causes of falls by older people are loose, worn, or backless slippers.

As well as being fitted for, and gifted, anti-slip slippers, local library staff and volunteers will promote regular library activities, and clubs and societies in the area, to help combat loneliness and isolation. Events will be delivered in partnership with a number of organisations that provide support and advice to older residents.

This project will deliver against the national Health and Wellbeing Universal Offer for libraries, promoting healthy living by providing self-management support and engagement opportunities.

The Corporate Director of Community Development, in consultation with the Assistant Director – Resources for Community Development, has approved the submission of the grant application of £8,500 to Arts Council England.

Proposal to move to public consultation for a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Scarborough.
The PSPO is intended to protect a public space from persistent or continuing anti-social behaviour, which is having a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality.

The decision was taken to move ahead to public consultation for the introduction of a new Public Space Protection Order in Scarborough.

The award of a contract for anti-virus and malware software to Boxxe Limited following a further competition through CCS Framework RM6098 Technology Products and Associated Services 2.

The contract is for five years and commences on 13 June 2024.

The contract value is £220,502.63 (exc VAT).
